Patapost Friday: Pata-Tips #2

So by now many have you hopefully have passed the nasty desert, took down a few bosses, and can catch the FEVER like you were one of those cats from Outbreak.

Now let’s talk about amp-ing up your Patapon army. As you have probably have found out, success in this game takes rhythm and focus, but that will only get you so far. You are going to have to build a bad-a$$ army, arm them to the teeth, and know how to put them to work.

Dream lineup!
“Where do they get those wonderful toys?”
Helmets, Shields and Weapons “Oh My!” There are a ton to collect in this game, if you keep on fighting the Zigotons, they will drop goodies left and right.

Zigoton Leaders

Zigoton Leaders
You can also acquire more gear from boss levels. You can replay boss levels infinitely, but as the level goes up so does the difficulty so man up your troops as you go along. Just as a sample here are some of the helmets you can score:

  • wood helm = is standard issue
  • iron helm = boosts stamina
  • steel helm = boosts both stamina and defense
  • wind helm = quickens attacks and resists flames
  • strength helm = greatly boosts attacks
  • ancient helm = greatly improves basic skills
  • Giant Turtle helm = greatly improves defense
  • Divine helm = resists flames and has destabilizing capabilities

Last post, we mentioned that we’ll be answering a few questions on gameplay and offer some tips as long as it doesn’t spoil the ending.

Patapost Friday: Get your Patapon BE@RBRICK

bearbrick_02

Word around Patapolis is that Priestess Meden is built like a brick house … a BE@RBRICK house that is. You’ve probably seen images of it floating around, and the overall sentiment has can be easily outlined as follows:

- zOMG, how cool.
- Where can I get one?
- How much it be?

zOMG how cool.
Yes, we agree 100%. Patapon’s character designer, ROLITO, has transplanted the loveable eyeballs from the 2D real of the PSP into the 3D realm of tactile physical objects.

Where can I get one?
We’re going to be making a few announcements as to how you can obtain one of these ultra-kawaii-pon BE@RBRICKS soon. Keep a watchful eye on some of your favorite gaming and toy websites, as they’ll be part of the craziness as well.

How much this be?
As all things special, the Patapon BE@RBRICK is priceless, meaning that its $0.00. The only way to get a one will be through special promotions.

As the Pata-drool begins to drip, I’m sure you are asking “What special promotions?” I would reply “The ones listed on the new full official website-pon.”

Look for the BE@RBRICK page, in the “Extras” section where you’ll find Pata-goodies to download. After that don’t forget to take “Mighty One 101” and learn about all the Pata-peeps and how to order your army around with your beat.

With that I will leave you till next week, when PATAPON HITS STORES and we all dance for joy!

Weekly Patapost: Valentine’s Day Demo Download

File

Goodbye sadness, hello Patapon (demo that is).

This is an official announcement for the Patapon demo, and yes, this isn’t Groundhog Day; and no, you didn’t just have a Memento moment.

So, what’s all the fuss about? Well since Valentine’s Day is coming up, we decided that instead of sending each and every one of you heart-shaped candies and sappy cards, we’d provide you with something you’ve been asking for… so to keep the Valentine’s theme going:

Patapon + Interwebs = BFF’s 4-ever.
(Translation: Patapon PSP demo goes live on the PLAYSTATION Store for PC this Valentine’s Day; *hearts* for you)

Yes, it is true. After reading some of your comments (you know who you are), we decided to extend the demo to all corners of the North America, thanks to the powers of the interwebs, so come February 14th, 2008, you will be able to score the free Patapon demo online over the PLAYSTATION Store for PC.

But wait, there’s more! For an unlimited time only, you’ll also be able to download the Patapon PSP demo over your PS3 as well! Oh Pata-SNAP! So make sure your PSP’s Memory Stick Pro Duo is good and ready to download and transfer the demo from your PS3 over to your PSP.

So to summarize:

  • Patapon PSP demo to launch over both the PlayStation Store for PC (http://store.playstation.com) and PS3 on February 14th, 2008
  • Patapon PSP demo will have the same save-to-final feature as the UMD version.
  • Memory Stick Duo needed to transfer the demo to your PSP. Your PSP does not have telepathic powers nor does it learn through osmosis (yet).
  • Patapon PSP demo will complete your life and fill you full of hearts and French stuff (you know, like Rolito).
  • You know what to do on February 26th

Happy Valentine’s Day!

- Chris “Candy Heart” HM.

Patapost Friday: All We Need is a Miracle

Do you believe in magic JUJU? You’ll have to if you want to survive through Patapon … but more importantly you’ll need to know where to find it … and how to identify it.

As any great warrior will tell you, you must always mind your surroundings, and Patapon is much the same as each level has been designed with the goal of creating small puzzles as you progress. So before you weep like a small wee-tot from frustration, remember that you can always revisit past levels … perhaps there is something you might have missed …

Rain JuJu
The first few levels of Patapon you’ll progress along just fine until you reach the Desert. Once you set a single pata-foot on the hot scorching sand you’ll quickly realize that you need something to bring the temp down a few degrees. Perhaps some rain might do the trick.

Of course, at this point some of you might be scratching your head and wondering: how do I make it rain!?

Well, you need the rain Juju!

Patapon juju dance

So then you will ask: where the Pon do I get the Rain JuJu?

Well, in the first hunting level silly!

Patapon whereisthejuju

So go back to the hunting level and check out certain “button symbols” and see if pressing those buttons might trigger something. Exploring is all part of the Patapon experience!

With this under your belt, now you know that the background art is not just there to look cute and pretty. 1UP also has a pretty cool comprehensive outline of some other features (some of which we’ve discussed here before and some new ones as well). Your pata-homework is to study the video and learn!

Patapon Soldiers dismissed!
