Gran Turismo PSP Cover Revealed

Hello, GT fans and car lovers. As revealed yesterday on MotorTrend.com, the Corvette ZR1 was chosen by Gran Turismo producer and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi to grace the cover of the first Gran Turismo game to make its way to the PSP.

GT PSP Packfront

Dubbed the “Blue Devil” by the team at GM, the ZR1 is GM’s most powerful production car ever, sporting a 6.2L V8 pumping out 638hp and a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds. Motor Trend was able to get the ZR1 to an incredible top speed of 200.5mph, did the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds finishing at 130.5mph, and raved about its performance.

So, everyone else loves the ZR1, but why was it picked for the cover of Gran Turismo’s PSP debut? Well, who better to explain that than the man behind GT himself, Kazunori Yamauchi.

“This spring I visited Detroit a few times, mainly to see the factories of the Big 3, and their museums and archives.

What I came to realize in those visits, was that the designs and mechanisms of American cars, in all eras over the years, have always been aimed towards a bright new future that all little kids dream about, and just
seeing them makes your heart race.

I found that when I’m surrounded by these generations of American cars, it just simply makes me happy.

There is a different experience in European car museums. In Europe I am more enveloped by a humbling, almost holy experience, in awe of the existence of the Automobile that was born out of practicality, and usually
appreciate its rich, diligent history of engineering in silent respect.

And so I’ve really come to realize more and more lately, that “American Cars have always been looking straight into the future, and have always been full of dreams – and quite wonderful after all.”

With all the automotive industry in the world at a crisis, I know that North American automakers are especially in a very difficult situation, and I understand the background and the reasons behind this.

And I can easily envision these things affecting our works as well. After all, as you well know, the game Gran Turismo is a video game that grew thanks to the insight and vision of the automotive industry, and in effect
nurtured by its kindness, in its very womb.

And that’s why I wanted us to make something, that could cheer up those in the industry.

Many GM cars representative from the Autorama days have really helped build the foundations of my adoration and sense of value for cars. And something that had always been deep within my heart over the years, is the long line
of Corvettes;

As long as I’ve known in every era, even from when I was a very small child, the Corvette has always been one of the coolest cars around.

And that is the reason why the newest Corvette ZR-1, was selected for the package cover of Gran Turismo for the PSP that is planned for release.

Also, there’s a fun little bit at the ending of this PSP version Gran Turismo, that is in concert with this package image of the Corvette.

I hope you’ll look forward to its release..”

And to close off the work-week with a bit of an international flare, here’s a Japanese commercial for Gran Turismo, featuring two of the world’s best three-lettered racing machines on one of the world’s most challenging tracks. Check out the video below and let your eyes feast on the future of handheld racing. Extra kudos points for anyone that can tell us what cars and track we’re talking about…and if you need some extra HD help, the video is also available for download (for free) on PSN.

So mark it on your calendars: Gran Turismo, on UMD and PSN this October 1. More than 800 cars, 35 tracks, a lifetime’s worth of racing.

Sack it to Me: The “Back from Comic-Con” Edition

LBP Banner

We are back and almost recovered from the insanity that was San Diego Comic-Con. Hugs to all the LBP fans who came and visited us, with special props to the DIY Sackboy Costumes!

Check out the pics and a nice recap below, see another game where Sackboy is kicking butt, and who is visiting LBP next!

COMIC-CON RECAP

On top of the MARVEL-ous announcement on Sunday, the PlayStation booth had much LBP love with LittleBigPlanet PSP available to play and a ton of awesome user-generated levels for players to dive into. As a special treat Lucas Sparks (Darknessbear) and David Dino (gevurah22) were on site to meet fellow LBP creators to exchange tips and to hand out sweet LBP schwag!

But don’t take our word for it; here is a message from the fellas themselves:

LBP @ Comic-Con 4

(Lucas giving some tips)

Message from Lucas Sparks:

Comic-Con. Was. Epic. Thanks to all that came by and to those that knew me and my levels. It was a great time meeting some of the great fans of LBP and the lovers of the PS3. It was a blast giving away those fancy LBP tshirts (to those that won one in the four player competitions!) and it was even more fun hearing what everyone had to say about LBP as well as the PS3. Thank you all! And hope to see some more of you at future events.

LBP @ Comic-Con 3

Thanks, Luke (DarknessBear). Oh and kudos to the girl dressed as Sack Girl – best costume ever.

LBP @ Comic-Con 2

Message from David Dino:

Comic-con 2009 was definitely a time to remember for LBP fans who attended. Aside from the awesome news that LBP has teamed up with Marvel to create some future content many fans were hoping for, this weekend really shined when interacting with other fans of Media Molecule’s hit video game. From children to adults, I had the satisfying experience of playing, creating, and sharing with them face to face. For some, they just wanted to run around in user generated content that made them laugh over and over again such as the Unfair Platformer 2. Others who came by the booth were wowed by the excellent visuals from levels such as the Sci-Fi World series.

It was especially entertaining to see attendees get hyped over some of our contests which involved multiplayer games and the spoils (usually some form of LBP swag) going to the winner.

LBP @ Comic-Con 1

This weekend was also a chance to test some new things I’ve been working on and seeing first hand how players would react to it. It’s amazing how much you learn simply by watching other players’ reactions to what you have created in person at such an event. I had LBP novices and experts run through my work and provide excellent critiques on how they’d like to see it flourish. As hard as would be to recreate the same situation, I urge other creators out there to pull anyone you know regardless of their LBP experience to help test your levels aside from your usual “go-to” guys. There was even an industry veteran who came by the booth and we spoke about the addictive nature of LBP’s create mode and how it could be used to help teach people about game design in a classroom setting. We even created a level (albeit short) at Comic-con in one day, adding pictures of staff and attendees who had participated in its creation!

It really is amazing how this game has captured such a wide array of ages and backgrounds while still pushing on with added content throughout a relatively short time. It really is a testament to Media Molecule’s passion to create a game that can provide such fun on so many levels. Again, a big thanks to Mm and Sony for giving me and many others the opportunity to play, create, and share with each other at Comic-con 2009. I hope to see you guys at the next big event!

SACKBOY “kicks it” in RAG DOLL KUNG FU!

Rad Doll Kung Fu Sackboy!

For those of you who don’t know, SACKBOY has been kicking butt on Rag Doll Kung Fu for a while now as an unlockable character. But now with and new pack releasing for the game, you can get him instantly!

KA-POW!

LBP DLC UPDATE

Next week LBP gets a shock…

LBP DLC??? 2

Don’t worry…

Burn Zombie Burn! Patch and Home Space

Greetings! My name is Ollie Barder and I’m a senior games designer at doublesix, the studio behind the recent PlayStation Network exclusive Burn Zombie Burn! Along with other members of our studio, I worked a lot on the game’s scripting and level design. So when you see zombies and weapons spawn in lovely patterns and forcing you into choke points, that’s me.

We’ve also been hard at work at expanding the Burn Zombie Burn! universe since the game was released in March. With our new Home space, set in a themed graveyard, you can literally walk amongst the undead in the same way as you do in game. There’s also a cool maze populated with some zombies too. Naturally, there’s a selection of apparel available for purchase as well.

In addition to our new Home space, there’s also a patch out now that has YouTube and background music support. This means you can record in-game footage and then upload it to YouTube to show off your skills. Background music support means you can select music to playback in game via the XMB and the music you have stored on your PlayStation 3. Enjoy!

A New PS3 Platformer “topatoi” Coming to PSN This Fall

Hello PlayStation Blog readers! My name is Natalia and I’m the PR Manager from Boolat Games, a game development studio from Donetsk, Ukraine. I’d like to introduce “topatoi” – a new captivating arcade platformer game for PLAYSTATION 3 / PSN.

The first part of arcade saga “topatoi: The Great Tree Story” was released 2nd of July in EU. Unfortunately we had no opportunity to get the game out in the US at the same time, but it will be available in the US PlayStation Store this fall and everyone will have a chance to take an unforgettable journey with inquisitive explorer Raph into fantastic world, and challenge yourself with a variety of platforming levels and game modes.

'topatoi' Banner

The story begins when Raph and his friends find their self in a strange place, after their aircraft was crash-landed. But it is not the only problem – Raph’s girlfriend is kidnapped by the evil Blackwing, so now they have to find spare parts to fix the airship, also attempting to safe Raph’s girlfriend. Not so easy to solve all these problems at the same time…

But don’t worry! Raph has a fantastic vehicle that looks like a futuristic whirligig. Unusual abilities of this device will help the main hero to overcome all obstacles. Check out the latest gameplay video and you will see what “topatoi” looks like:

Those 150 seconds of video capture the core values of “topatoi” and brings you to The Great Tree world, where you can communicate with strange and sometimes funny inhabitants, fight enemies, standing in your way, collect stars and take journey in search of new adventures.

Successfully passed story mode opens challenging arcade mode where you can test and improve your skill and coordination. Beautiful and various levels of arcade mode, which require quick reaction and thinking are full of puzzles of increasing difficulty and it’s very enjoyable to solve them with your friends in split screen mode or by yourself.

Hope you like the video! Stay turned, I’ll keep you informed with all game details and release date. If you have any questions, fire away in the comments below and I’ll do my best to answer them.

See you soon!
