The Xbox 360 was the first of the next generation consoles to launch. A premium version of the 360, the xbox 360 premium comes with a 20gb harddrive. The Xbox 360 elite comes with 120gb and HDMI output. Xbox live is regarded as the best in terms of online multiplayer play.

Next Gen Features: Lacks any distinctive next-gen feature

NGC Likes: The xbox 360 is nothing radical: it has more or less the same features of the original xbox, but has a stronger processor and wireless controllers. The beauty of the 360 is the depth of the xbox 360 software library. The xbox 360 has numerous excellent games, all of which are playable on xbox live (the most organized of the next gen online programs).

• Excellent replay value of games because of Xbox live

NGC Dislikes: There is nothing truly next generation about the xbox 360. The graphics are good, but do not match up those of the playstation 3. The games are fun and creative, but not as innovative as those made for the Wii. The software occasionally glitches, and there was an initial problem of overheating. The core system is very bare, and lacks the 20gb hardrive, the wifi internet, and even the media remote.

Nintendo DS Lite

The Nintendo DS is currently the lead handheld console.
After the DS released, Nintendo came out with the more attractive DS Lite.

Next Gen Features: Has a touch screen that is operated by use of a stylus.
All DS and DS Lite consoles come with built in WiFi.

NGC Likes: The Nintendo DS Lite is a small and extremely attractive console. It’s WiFi feature
lets gamers play multiplayer, even with those who do not have the game (although it’s limited). The touch screen
is useful and responsive, and takes handheld consoles to the next level. The homebrew hack makes excellent use of
the DS’s features.

• Small and stylish
• Excellent multiplayer and able to play multiplayer without game
• Touch screen is innovative and revolutionizes gameplay
• Homebrew hack turns DS console into a media machine

NGC Dislikes: The original DS is very bulky. The graphics are decent, but do not compare to those
of the Sony PSP. In terms of games, Nintendo often misses out on certain software producers (ex.Rockstar).
Without the homebrew hack, the Nintendo DS is very basic, unable to play music or movies.

Playstation 3 PS3

The Playstation 3 is the graphical powerhouse of all the next gen consoles. The PS3 is also a blueray media player.

Next Gen Features: Incredible graphics, along with sixth axis motion sensitivity in controller. Is a blueray player.

NGC Likes: The PS 3 has unbeatable graphics. The sixth axis feature on the playstation 3 is creative and allows future gameplay to be more interactive. The PS 3 is the cheapest blueray player available, and the quality of the new format is impeccable.

• Amazing graphics
• Sixth Axis is fun without drastically changing gameplay style
• Cheapest Blueray player around

NGC Dislikes: The Playstation 3 is the most expensive of the next gen consoles, being more than twice the cost of the Wii. The online multiplayer system is decent, but doesn’t quite compare to Xbox live. It will be some time before designers are able to make full use of the Playstation 3’s graphical abilities.
